Danny Ings SIGNED

West Ham United are delighted to announce the signing of proven Premier League striker Danny Ings.

Ings, a senior England international, has joined the Hammers from Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee until the summer of 2025.

All paperwork was submitted ahead of the midday deadline for the player to be eligible for tomorrow’s Premier League fixture against Everton at London Stadium and the Club expects it will receive formal confirmation this afternoon.

The 30-year-old, who will add depth and quality to the Irons’ squad, is relishing the opportunity to play for the Club.

“I’m really excited to join West Ham United,” said Ings, who will wear the No18 shirt. “It’s important I settle in as quickly as I can do – and do the important stuff on the pitch for West Ham.

“We’ve got some massive games ahead of us – and I’ve come here to try and score as many goals as I can to help the team to get some positive results.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started.”

Ings, who has 68 Premier League goals to his name in 188 top-flight appearances, netted at an impressive rate of better than one in three for Burnley, Liverpool, Southampton and Aston Villa, with a single-season best of 22 for the Saints in 2019/20.

The hard-working Winchester-born striker has scored regularly wherever he has played, registering nearly 125 career goals and hitting the net for England in a friendly win over Wales at Wembley in October 2020.

An efficient and intelligent player with impressive technical ability, Ings’ work-rate and determination mean he also excels at regaining possession in the final third and running with the ball at his feet.

Raised in the village of Netley on Southampton Water, Ings started his career with nearby AFC Bournemouth. A prolific spell at Burnley led to promotion to the Premier League, a transfer to Liverpool and a senior England debut in a UEFA European Championship qualifier against Lithuania in 2015.

Ings joined Southampton in 2018 and produced three prolific seasons on the south coast, scoring 46 goals in exactly 100 appearances for the Saints across three campaigns, including 41 in the Premier League. He added two more England caps against Iceland and Wales in 2020.

He joins the Hammers as Aston Villa’s leading scorer this season with seven goals.

Just watched a replay of our first goal. He was magnificent. Picked it up deep and played the cross field pass to Bowen then busted a gut to get into the centre forward position in time for the return pass which he scored from.

Great centre forward play.

I truly believe he’ll prove to be a great signing if he stay injury free

Surely after yesterday's game it is clear for all to see that Antonio is finished (we all know he has been for some time now).

It's now time for Ings to start playing and eventually get a partnership with Scamacca. Even if we just use Antonio for the Europa Conference, just keep him well away from the league games. He has not really achieved anything to warrant that extension he was given at all.

Yup, a few games in and can't fathom this signing really aside from he must have been emergency cover. But what an expensive bit of emergency cover.

We will get nothing from him in 15 min spells where he's running around aimlessly with the ball 40 feet away from him, also 40 feet from goal, isolated as lone frontman. No hint whatsoever of playing to his strengths. We may as well just have bought a big pacey winger from the championship for 1/4 of the price and bunged him up if all we wanted was a physical presence who can chase lost causes, run around and make a nuisance of himself. How many times has he actually even touched the ball in a West Ham shirt?

We have never had owners, directors etc smart enough to build up from the ground and put a vision in place throughout the whole club, you need highly intelligent, savvy people to do that.

Every summer, or best case every second summer, we are trying to clear out a load of dead wood, paying players to leave etc, which tells you that we never learn as far as recruitment is concerned.

Spot on.
There is no identity and there is no plan from the owners as to what they want or how they hope to achieve it. They think it's all about the manager and then spending money but it's much more than that.
You can do it that way but you have to either spend a hell of allot of money on both manager and players and/or you need to have a hell of allot of luck.

If you run the club well and you have a vision for what you want to achieve and a plan for growth and success then you are half way there.

There is nothing wrong with Danny Ings. He's a good player who knows how to score goals.

The problem is he is a striker and he is playing under David Moyes and we know how that usually works out.

He doesn't play as a lone striker. He always had a Adams or Barnes or Watkins next to him to play off.

Why give him 15 min spells where he can't do anything alone?

Moyes is Everton’s masterplan, seems he’s got himself into a situation where the easiest way to regain some credibility is to fuck up here, then move there and improve them (marginally)

Mates who I speak with who support other teams absolutely laugh at what goes on at West Ham, they reckon it’s like being owned by the Trotters. Unfortunately can’t disagree.

Yeah the recruitment policy really bugs me. All the money spent previous window was such a scatter gun approach and we now have players that don't fit or can only be sold at a loss.

You'd be envious of how the likes of Brighton are run now, top manager, top recruitment etc. It can be done with the right people in charge.
